“We Believe”

From time to time I hear a song that just plain hits a bull’s-eye in life with truth, passion, and transparent honesty. This one today is by the Newsboys and personally I cannot wait for it to make it into church worship music. Let’s take a look at it today. And, while we look at it; remember to take it personally and exchange the “We” into the first person “I.”

“We Believe” – Newsboys

In this time of desperation
When all we know is doubt and fear
There is only one foundation
We believe, we believe

When we look around us today, or at any given time in our life actually; it seems like a time of desperation. Just turn on the news, look at a newspaper, check the internet, or even look at TV advertisements that tell us we need to ask our doctor for some super cure new medicine …but with side effects that, to me, make it worse than the disease! Whatever the case, life around us makes us think that trouble is there waiting to jump upon us and bring up the next crisis we have no answer for.

However, the next verse of the Newsboys’ song states the only answer to the unanswerable questions and the terrors of life. But, remember to change the “We” to “I” when you read it:

We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the Crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s coming back again
We believe

Romans 10: 8-10 says: “For salvation that comes from trusting Christ—which is what we preach—is already within easy reach of each of us; in fact, it is as near as our own hearts and mouths.  For if you tell others with your own mouth that Jesus Christ is your Lord and believe in your own heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in his heart that a man becomes right with God; and with his mouth he tells others of his faith, confirming his salvation.”

Those are powerful words of faith and certainly words to remember in every …repeat, …every situation that comes our way! Therefore: —

So, let our faith be more than anthems
Greater than the songs we sing
And in our weakness and temptations
We believe, we believe

Note that it says “in our weaknesses & in our temptations…

We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the Crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s coming back again
We believe

Let the lost be found
And the dead be raised
In the here and now
Let love invade
Let the church live loud
Our God we’ll say
We believe, we believe

Do you ever feel like you are lost? …or dead? Like life isn’t worth it or nobody cares? Or, that only I know my pain and suffering?

Well, God, Himself, says in Revelation 7:17: For the Lamb on the throne will be their Shepherd. He will lead them to springs of life-giving water. And God will wipe every tear from their eyes.”

And the gates of Hell
Will not prevail
For the power of God
Has torn the veil
Now we know Your love
Will never fail
We believe, we believe

Nor will anything or anyone prevail against God’s love & will in our lives.

We believe in God the Father
We believe in Jesus Christ
We believe in the Holy Spirit
And He’s given us new life
We believe in the Crucifixion
We believe that He conquered death
We believe in the resurrection
And He’s coming back again
We believe

So then; the only question to you and me is…

Do you Believe?
