“The Bible Project 2017”
Bob Butcher
Kathy and I have something new for you in the 2017 Chapel this year and I think you will enjoy it.
We want to offer you a new, easy and fun way to learn, understand, and remember the Bible and put it into your everyday life. Let me try to explain, however, the best way is to take about five to ten minutes with your computer, smart phone, or IPad / Kindle and watch the unique cartoon-like artistic drawings on video that I will post here at each event this year. After all, did you know that 2017 is internationally declared “The Year of The Bible?”
Lets begin with an introduction to the Bible: The Bible is a Library of books. In this case we can hold the whole library in our hands. That’s unique in itself.
Now you can go to a community library and go into your favorite section and pick out 2 books. For example if you go to SyFi section you can pick up George Orwell’s “1984” and then another popular book closer to today that fictionally depicts history differently.
But, in the library called “the Bible” you get a historical account that was written by a large number of authors living over a thousand years that depict history around their own personal life. What’s incredible however, is that All these books, by all these authors, over all the hundreds of years, all come together into one single story that jives together as one single story that is woven together as one.
That’s because of its divine nature. By that I mean God inspired these men to write what they lived and witnessed. That’s exactly why all these writers wrote corresponding historical facts because they lived it themselves. Even though they never knew the other authors (except a few as in the case of the Disciples) or read the other authors writings they all correspond exactly to tell one story.
Heb 1: 1-3: Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, 2 but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed the heir of all things, through whom also He created the world. 3 He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of His nature, and He upholds the universe by the word of His power. After making purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. (ESV)
The center of Christianity is all over the world and almost equally. All other religions are pretty much centered in either a certain geographical area or at least heavy concentration there, and zero or tiny amount around the world. But Christianity is spread out in comparatively teen to twenties percentages in all areas of the world. In the NA continent we are only at 12%. Surprised? In Asia where so many false religions began Christianity is 18%. In Africa it’s 14%.
- So we must ask ourselves: What’s the Bible for? (Answer: To tell the real story of human history from God’s perspective.) Christianity speaks to the answer to the problems of mankind.
- We must ask ourself: Is the God I believe in the God as revealed in the Bible?
- Then ask: Am I using the Bible to simply know more? Or allowing it to conform me?
- Lastly, Am I committed to living the way God intends His people too live? 2 Timothy 3: 14-17 says: 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (NIV)
Okay, Then let me tell you what we are excited about. There is a young Pastor in Portland, OR leading a team of people creating a whole new way of sharing the Bible using some very unique ways.
