6 Years Later

…an On-Scene Memorial

Albuquerque, New Mexico

Interstate 40

*** Note: This is posted for those unable to attend “The Gathering to Remember Spencer Clark.”  It is not a Chapel Service.  It is a memorial to Spencer.

I don’t know if you knew Spencer or not…

There is a lot we could say about him.  Maybe each of us has fond memories to share.

Personally, Spencer was the driver that I most easily “hit-it-off” with immediately.  Yes, it probably could have been our faith & love for the Lord; but whatever the case I thought “the world” of Spencer and his loss hit me hard and still does.

We also lost Andy Phillips who was Spencer’s jackman and good friend; from Phoenix, AZ.  Andy was 28.

Unfortunately, I did not know Andy well.

Here we are today gathered at the scene where Spencer, just 19 years old left us.  Whether family or friend; all of us still have to wonder why?

I do not know why these things happen but I do know some things:

First, is that like King David, who God said was a man after His own heart and will do all I ask him too” (Acts 13:22 GBB)  Spencer was also after His heart.

Further down in Acts 13:36 God says:

“When David had completed the work that God had set out for him to accomplish fell asleep and was buried with his ancestors.”  (GBB)

Like David, Spencer had completed God’s mission for him and the world was not worthy of him anymore. (Hebrews 11:38)

Does that mean we all fit this same scenario?  Absolutely not!  However, in Spencer’s case when I reflect back that is who I saw Spencer was. He fit the profile perfectly.

God had something better for Spencer.

That is RESURRECTION.  Check out 1 Corinthians 15 and lots of other places in God’s Word, the Bible. (see list at bottom)

Resurrection and present with God; that’s God’s plan for us.  A new body, a spiritual one, forever and Spencer got one!

So will we; providing we choose to believe in God’s Son Jesus Christ and His work at the cross. Simple as that.

So today, we say: “Lord, we miss Spencer and Andy.”

We thank you for their lives and the short time we had them with us.

We pray for peace in T.J.’s, Debbie’s, and Candice’s hearts along with each of ours as we know that Spencer is with you.

And lastly, we choose to remember Spencer’s favorite scripture that he chose to live by:

Ephesians 2:8-9

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and even this is not our own doing, it is the gift of God—  not by our hard work or achievements so that no one can boast.”

May we choose to live the same way,

Amen

Other Scriptures to meditate upon:

2 Samuel 7:12

Philippians 3:20-21

1 Corinthians 12:4

1 Corinthians 15: 19-54

2 Corinthians 5: 6-8
